After completing a cycle of more than 35 years as a founding partner of the firm Gallástegui y Lozano, which later associated with DLA Piper to form DLA Piper Gallástegui y Lozano, Gerardo continues his private practice, focusing primarily on national and international arbitration.

Gerardo has extensive experience in international arbitration and has acted as arbitrator, expert and counsel in numerous jurisdictions in connection with international disputes across 4 a broad range of sectors and industries, including energy, infrastructure, finance, insurance, maritime and corporate law. He has acted in both ad hoc and administered arbitrations under the rules of ICC, CANACO, CAM, ICDR, LCIA, UNCITRAL, SMA, CIADI and HKIAC. Gerardo has acted as arbitrator and as legal counsel in more than sixty arbitrations.

Gerardo also continues advising his clients on financing, financial restructurings, maritime law, and insurance matters.

His roles have included serving as expert, administrative secretary and assistant to arbitral tribunals, and as counsel in both ad hoc proceedings and arbitrations administered under the rules of ICSID (in connection with the NAFTA and the CAFTA-DR), UNCITRAL, ICC, LCIA, ICDR, HKIAC, and Mexican institutions such as CANACO and CAM.
